Friday Evening: Creating La Dolce Vita, one bite at a time

Michele Carbone

Michele CarboneMichele Carbone lives La Dolce Vita in Santa Barbara, California with her husband and two daughters. After her daughter Kristin's catastrophic brain injury in 1996, her life in the fast lane came to a screeching halt. Her career ended, and life in the slow lane became the norm. Throughout the sleepless nights, days of therapy, and slow rehabilitation, her life's priorities changed. Her love of cooking and eating sustained her creative urges and became the catalyst for a transformation into a new, simpler, and more rewarding culinary lifestyle, based on using recently harvested local seasonal foods.

Reviews

"More than just a cookbook with great photography, Friday Evening is an inspired tribute to the ageless ceremony of sharing a meal with family and friends. The recipes are easy to follow, elegant, authentic and delicious. After a few pages you'll be picking up the phone to invite everyone you love to dinner."

—Philip Kirkwood, Publisher, Food & Home Magazine

"In Friday Evening, Michele Carbone ... invites you into her kitchen to learn her approach to eating and living well. She is influenced by Italian culture in particular, but has created a personal cuisine ... more refined than the original and includes local products in fresh and creative ways. Friday Evening should inspire readers to consider their lifestyle, to eat locally, and to spend more time in the kitchen and at the table."

— Pamela Sheldon Johns, cookbook author and organic Italian olive oil producer

"I sat down with a cup of coffee and didn't get up until I finished reading the book."

— N. Salvucci

"We love your (spectacular) book! If you like photography,…and you like Italy, this book is the one to get!"

— Arthur von Wiesenberger, Nippers Table Talk

"Friday Evening is a great guide to a better way of life! Great philosophy based on family, friends, local, fresh and natural foods - you can't go wrong!"

— T. Greene, Wilson, NC

"I just want to thank you and let you know that your stories in your book gave me the impetus to get organized to plant a vegetable garden this summer. We have been enjoying fresh lettuce salads from our garden for the past 3 weeks. So I think of you every evening. It also made me think about starting a new business and changing my lifestyle..."

— Christine Flannery, Montecito Magazine
